Agile Humanitarian Relief Supply Chain in Cyclone Prone Bangladesh: Problems and Proposal

Abstract

Rising incidents of cyclone in Bangladesh is an increasing concern. People have to suffer a lot
every year because the humanitarian relief supply chain has to overcome a number of hurdles
that are time consuming and there is no guarantee that it will reach all the victims. This paper
aims to investigate the possible reasons behind the failure of agile humanitarian relief supply
chain and give a proposal as solution to improve it. The cause-effect diagram has been analyzed
to show why the supply chain cannot function properly after the cyclone and where the main
fault lies. To overcome the hindrance, a five-recruited based solution is proposed which will
eventually remove lots of challenges if it can be implemented properly. But there are also pros
and cons to this proposal which will be a question of success unless used in grassroots areas.
Due to limited data collection opportunities during the 2019-20 pandemic, only theoretical
solution is provided in this paper which calls for more calculative research in the future.
