Identification and analysis of barriers to achieve supply chain resilience in manufacturing industry: an ISM and MICMAC approach
Keywords:
ISM-MICMAAbstract
Supply chain resilience (SCR) demonstrates when the supply chain network is capable to
withstand, adapt, and recover from disturbances in order to fulfill consumer demand and
guarantee performance. Due to the growing complexity of modern supply chains and
subsequently increasing probability of experiencing a disruption, understanding of SCR is
increasingly important for supply chain managers. The research study uses an interpretive
structural modeling (ISM) and MICMAC approach for directing and supporting managers and
policy-makers of manufacturing industries. In the background of a developing world using
previous literature and expert mining, this study empirically established the barriers to achieve
SCR with their corresponding sources in industry by taking the Bangladeshi manufacturing
sector as an example. The findings reflect the dysfunctional existence of variables in the sense
of their effect on each other, their interactions, and themselves. The factors identified as barriers
in the proposed framework and their interrelationships illustrate the multi-dimensional aspect
of prevention of SCR achievement. The findings demonstrate the criticality of evaluating data
as a collective entity instead of seeing the barriers in isolation. This study highlights theoretical
and managerial implications of barriers to achieve SCR.
