Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital payments in Bangladesh has increased the importance of interoperable payment solutions such as Bangla QR. This study examines the factors that may influence consumers’ adoption of Bangla QR payments, with particular attention to perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust, perceived risk, and social influence. The study is grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and extends it by incorporating trust, perceived risk, and social influence to reflect the broader technological and behavioral context of digital payments. A quantitative research design is proposed, supported by structured questionnaire data and field-level observations, while secondary evidence from Bangladesh Bank and previous empirical studies is used to provide national and contextual support. The available evidence shows that Bangla QR has experienced substantial growth in Bangladesh. Transaction volume increased from 723,378 in January 2026 to more than 6.25 million in July 2026, while transaction value rose from approximately Tk 212.05 crore to Tk 1,475.95 crore over the same period. Previous consumer-level evidence further indicates that perceived usefulness and trust are important drivers of digital-payment adoption, with performance expectancy and trust showing particularly strong relationships with adoption intention. The findings suggest that the successful adoption of Bangla QR depends not only on technological convenience but also on consumer confidence, merchant availability, awareness, reliable infrastructure, and an enabling policy environment. The study therefore highlights the need for stronger payment security, improved user experience, greater public awareness, wider merchant acceptance, affordable transaction costs, and inclusive access. Overall, Bangla QR has considerable potential to support Bangladesh’s transition toward a more convenient, interoperable, and inclusive digital payment ecosystem.
